I enjoyed this book. It is very short. The photos are not very clear, but it does have a photo of all listed shells. I like the short description it gives for each one. It list the common name, scientific name and sometimes the Hawaiian name. I have a lot of Hawaiian shells, so I have found books that are specific to Hawaii to be very helpful.

I think that the photos are quite clear, and this booklet is still helpful 45 years later, with the information about each of the shell's depth and type of sea bed preferences.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are definitely not bad considering when it was printed and I have found it very useful.
DeleteStill a useful booklet, and certainly the best on Hawaiian marine shells for it's time. The so-called authoritative one for shells of this area during the late 1960's and most of the '70's, "A Field Guide to Shells of the Pacific Coast and Hawaii" (2nd edition, 1966) by Percy Morris didn't even include the large Mitridae of this region! - Tony Arioli
